If your DStv bill used to say Family and now says Select, you have not been moved onto something pricier. In September 2026 DStv rebuilt its line-up, and the DStv Select package took over from Family. For a Noordhoek household with kids and a soapie fan, it is now a strong value tier.
Quick answer
The DStv Select package replaced Family from 17 September 2026. At the time of writing it costs R339 a month on a satellite decoder or R299 on DStv Stream, with 100+ channels. It carries Mzansi Magic, every PSL match, all the kids' channels and Wethu+. Premier League in full, M-Net and Springbok rugby sit on higher tiers.
What changed: the DStv family package became Select
DStv moved every customer to a new package line-up in phases from mid-September 2026. It was automatic. Nobody needed a new decoder, and DStv says customers do not pay more after the move.
- Access became Starter.
- The DStv family package became Select, with about 10 more channels.
- Compact customers moved to the new Sports package.
- A new Movies & Series package arrived for drama and film fans.
- Premium, Compact Plus (for existing subscribers only) and EasyView stayed as they were.
So if you had the old DStv family package in Sunnydale or Fish Hoek, you should already see the DStv Select package on your account. There is nothing to sign and nothing to switch on. If you are setting up from scratch instead, start with our DStv installation service in Noordhoek.
Good to know
If your decoder still shows the old package name or missing channels a week after the change, use the Fix Errors option in the MyDStv app with the decoder on. That re-sends your package to the box.
DStv select price: decoder versus Stream
The DStv select price on a satellite decoder is R339 a month at the time of writing. On DStv Stream, through the app or a Streama box, it is R299. The R40 gap pays for satellite delivery, which keeps working when the internet drops.
Either way, the DStv Select package carries the same 100+ channels.
| Package | Channels | Decoder pm | Stream pm | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 85+ | R150 | R99 | Tight budgets, a cottage TV |
| Select | 100+ | R339 | R299 | Families, kids, PSL and local drama |
| Sports | 115+ | R479 | R399 | Premier League, cricket, local rugby |
| Movies & Series | 115+ | R500 | R500 | M-Net, kykNET, films |
| Premium | 130+ | R979 (R799 on 24 months) | R799 | Springboks, F1, golf, everything |
Prices and channels can change, so confirm on DStv's own page on the new packages or in the MyDStv app before you decide.
Which way makes sense on a valley property?
In Noordhoek we lean towards satellite for the main TV. Fibre is good in many streets, but winter storms, load shedding on the router and long WiFi runs to cottages all affect streaming. Older homes may also have a dish already, which our guide to DStv installation cost in Noordhoek helps you price.
A dish keeps the lounge working through all of that, while Stream suits a student flat or a tenant without roof access.

Select channels: what you get on the DStv Select package
DStv calls Select the home of Mzansi Magic and the PSL. You get everything on Starter, plus a solid layer of local drama, news and kids' TV. In our experience, these Select channels are what keep a busy family home happy, and they are the main reason people stay on the DStv Select package.
- Local drama: Mzansi Magic, Moja Love and the new Wethu+.
- Football: SuperSport PSL with every PSL match, plus SuperSport Kickoff.
- Kids: all DStv's kids' channels, including Nickelodeon.
- Afrikaans: kykNET & kie, which is on every package from Starter up.
- Older favourites: M-Net Legends on channel 108.
- News: CNN alongside the local news channels.
What the DStv Select package does not include
This is where people get caught. Select is a family tier, not a sports or movies tier. Before you settle on it, check that nobody in the house will miss these:
- Every Premier League and Champions League match: that is on Sports and up.
- SuperSport Cricket, Currie Cup and the weekly URC match: Sports and up.
- M-Net, kykNET (main channel) and M-Net Movies+: Movies & Series and Premium.
- Springbok rugby, F1, golf and tennis: Premium only.

Select vs Starter vs Sports for Noordhoek homes
When we compare DStv packages in Noordhoek with homeowners, most families end up choosing between three tiers. Here is how we would put it, in plain terms.
Starter: the money-saver
At R150 a month on a decoder, Starter is fine for a granny flat, a guest cottage or someone who mainly wants news and a bit of football. You lose most of the kids' channels and Mzansi Magic, so it rarely works as the main family package.
The DStv Select package: the middle ground
For R189 more than Starter, the DStv Select package gives you the full kids' line-up, PSL and the big local dramas. It suits a household where the TV is shared between children after school and adults in the evening. For many homes in Capri and Sun Valley, this is the sweet spot.
Sports: when the rugby fan has a vote
At R479 a month, Sports adds every Premier League match, SuperSport Cricket and local rugby. If you are weighing up the old Compact line-up, our look at what happened to DStv Compact channels in Noordhoek explains the move. If someone in the house would otherwise go to a pub on a Saturday, the extra R140 over the DStv Select package often pays for itself.
Movies & Series and Premium
Movies & Series at R500 adds M-Net, kykNET and M-Net Movies+ for film and drama lovers. Premium at R979, or R799 on a 24-month contract, is the only home of Springbok rugby, F1 and golf. Both are a big step up from Select for most family budgets.
Technician tip
Upgrades take effect as soon as you pay the difference, but downgrades only start at the end of the month you have paid for. If you want Sports for one tournament, upgrade on the day and set a reminder to drop back.

XtraView on the DStv Select package in Noordhoek
Big valley homes often have a second TV in a main bedroom or a cottage. XtraView links two or three decoders on one subscription, and each TV can watch a different channel. With the DStv Select package, that is a common and sensible setup for families.
- Two HD decoders: Select at R339 plus one Access Fee of R125, so R464 a month at the time of writing.
- One Explora plus one other decoder: you already pay the Access Fee for the Explora, so the second box adds nothing monthly.
- Three decoders: Select plus two Access Fees.
The decoders must be connected to each other and to the dish, which usually means a Smart LNB and neat cabling between buildings. Our XtraView installation for Noordhoek homes covers linking, cable runs and testing each TV. If you are unsure which boxes you own, our guide to DStv decoder types for Noordhoek homes helps you tell them apart.

Getting set up on DStv packages in Noordhoek
New to DStv, or moving into a home in Noordhaven, Lake Michelle or a smallholding in the valley? You will need a dish aimed north-east at the satellite, a decoder and a working cable run. Tall gum and pine trees are the main headache here, so dish position matters more than in town.
Our standard installation includes the dish, LNB, bracket, cable, connectors, weatherproofing, alignment on a signal meter and decoder setup. As a guide, a standard single-view job usually budgets about R850 to R1,400, and we quote first.
Once the box is in, you will go through the on-screen setup. Our walk-through of the DStv installation wizard for Noordhoek homes covers each screen. After that, follow our steps on activating your decoder in Noordhoek to get your new package showing on the box.
Safety first
Thatched roofs and high gables are not places for a ladder and a cordless drill. Mounting a dish on thatch needs a separate pole or wall bracket, and the work should be done by someone with the right fixings and a helper on the ground.

Is the DStv Select package worth it in Noordhoek?
For most families, yes. The DStv Select package covers kids, local drama and PSL at a fair price, and it costs the same as Family did. Skip it if the house lives for the Premier League or the Springboks, or if you only watch in one small cottage.
- Pick the DStv Select package if the TV is shared between children and adults.
- Pick Sports if live overseas football or cricket matters weekly.
- Pick Starter for a second home or a guest cottage on a budget.

DStv select package in Noordhoek: FAQs
How much is the DStv Select package per month?
At the time of writing, the DStv Select package costs R339 a month on a satellite decoder and R299 a month on DStv Stream. If you link a second decoder with XtraView, add one Access Fee of R125 a month. Prices can change, so confirm the current amount on dstv.com or in the MyDStv app before you upgrade or downgrade.
What channels are on the DStv Select package?
Select has 100+ channels. It includes Mzansi Magic, Moja Love, Wethu+, SuperSport PSL with every PSL match, all of DStv's kids' channels such as Nickelodeon, kykNET and kie, M-Net Legends and CNN. It also carries everything on Starter. It does not include the main M-Net or kykNET channels, all Premier League matches or Springbok rugby.
Did the DStv Family package change to Select?
Yes. From 17 September 2026, DStv replaced Family with Select. Customers were moved automatically in phases, with no new decoder needed and no price increase after the move. Select adds about 10 channels compared to Family, including Wethu+ and the SuperSport PSL channel. If your decoder has not updated, use Fix Errors in the MyDStv app.
Can I get the DStv Select package in Noordhoek on a dish?
Yes. Select works on any current DStv satellite decoder in Noordhoek, as long as the dish has a clear view to the north-east. Tall trees and the mountains can block the signal in parts of the valley, so dish position matters. A technician can check the line of sight and set up the decoder with a signal meter.
Can I use XtraView with DStv Select in Noordhoek?
Yes. XtraView works on Select. Two decoders cost the Select subscription plus one R125 Access Fee a month at the time of writing. If one decoder is an Explora, you already pay that fee, so the second adds nothing monthly. In Noordhoek, linking a cottage or second building usually needs a Smart LNB and a longer cable run.
Is DStv Select better than Starter?
For a family, usually yes. Select adds Mzansi Magic, the PSL channel and all the kids' channels for R189 more a month on a decoder at the time of writing. Starter suits a guest cottage, a single viewer or a tight budget. If you mainly want overseas football or cricket, skip both and look at the Sports package instead.
