Privacy Policy
How we handle your personal information when you request a quote, book a technician or have work carried out at your property — written to comply with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act.
Last updated: 18 August 2026
1. Who we are
DSTV Installations Noordhoek ("we", "us", "our") provides MultiChoice accredited DStv installation, repair and signal troubleshooting services to homes and businesses in Noordhoek and the wider South Peninsula, Cape Town.
For the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA"), we are the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with and what rights you have.
It applies to this website, to enquiries you send us by phone, WhatsApp or email, and to the information we handle when we carry out work at your property.
2. Personal information we collect
We deliberately keep this to what a service business actually needs:
- Contact details — your name, telephone or WhatsApp number and email address.
- Service address — the physical address, suburb and access details for the property where work is to be carried out.
- Job details — what you have asked us to do, the equipment involved, decoder or smartcard numbers where these are needed to complete an activation, notes taken by the technician on site, and photographs of the installation where relevant to the work or the warranty.
- Quote and billing records — quotes issued, invoices, amounts and payment references. We do not store your card details.
- Correspondence — enquiries, WhatsApp and email threads relating to your job.
- Website information — basic technical data such as your browser type and the pages you viewed, in aggregate.
We do not collect special personal information as defined in POPIA, and we ask that you do not send it to us.
3. How we collect it
Directly from you, in almost every case: when you call or WhatsApp us, complete the quote form on this website, email us, or speak to a technician at your property. We may also receive your details from a landlord, managing agent, body corporate or estate manager who has arranged work on your behalf, or from a referral where you have agreed to be contacted.
4. Why we process it
We process your personal information for the following purposes, each of which has a lawful basis under POPIA:
- To quote and to perform the work you asked for — necessary to conclude or perform a contract with you.
- To reach you about a booking — confirming appointment windows, delays, access arrangements and completion.
- To complete MultiChoice-side activations and decoder linking where your job requires it.
- To honour a workmanship warranty — we need a record of what was installed, when and by whom.
- To invoice and keep accounting records — required by South African tax and company legislation.
- To handle complaints and improve our service — our legitimate interest in running the business properly.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.
We share the minimum necessary with:
- MultiChoice, where an activation, decoder linking or subscription-side action forms part of your job.
- Our technicians and subcontracted installers, who receive only the details needed to attend and complete your job.
- Suppliers and repair partners, where equipment must be sent away for assessment or replacement.
- Our accountants, bank and professional advisers, in the ordinary course of running the business.
- Regulators, law enforcement or a court, where we are legally required to do so.
Where we use a service provider (for example email or accounting software), we require them to process your information only on our instructions and to apply appropriate security safeguards. If any such provider stores information outside South Africa, we take reasonable steps to ensure the transfer meets POPIA's requirements for cross-border transfers.
6. How we keep it safe
We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate to a business of our size: access to customer records is limited to people who need it, devices used by our team are password protected, job records are not left in vehicles or on site, and paper records are securely destroyed once they are no longer needed.
No system is perfectly secure. If a security compromise affecting your personal information occurs, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as required by section 22 of POPIA.
7. How long we keep it
- Quotes that did not proceed — up to 12 months, then deleted.
- Job and installation records — for the duration of the workmanship warranty and a reasonable period afterwards, so that warranty claims can be assessed.
- Invoices and accounting records — for the period required by South African tax and company law, currently five years.
- Marketing consents — until you withdraw them.
Where we no longer have a lawful reason to keep information, we delete or destroy it.
8. Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
- Ask us to confirm, free of charge, whether we hold personal information about you, and to request a copy of it.
- Ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading or obtained unlawfully.
- Object, on reasonable grounds, to our processing of your information.
- Withdraw consent where our processing relies on consent, without affecting processing already carried out.
- Complain to the Information Regulator if you believe we have not handled your information lawfully.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@dstvinstallationnoordhoek.co.za or call 079 754 5527. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within a reasonable period.
Note that we may not be able to delete information we are legally required to retain, such as tax records, or information we need to assess an active warranty claim.
9. Cookies and website data
This website is a static informational site. It does not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and it does not build a marketing profile of you. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (including IP addresses) for security and diagnostic purposes.
The site loads a web font from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers when a page loads. If we add website analytics in future, we will update this policy before doing so.
10. Direct marketing
We may contact an existing customer about services related to work we have already done for you — for example a reminder that a pre-winter dish service is due. Every such message will identify us and give you a simple way to opt out. We do not send unsolicited electronic marketing to people who are not our customers, in line with section 69 of POPIA and the Consumer Protection Act.
11. Children's information
Our services are contracted with adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information about children, and we ask that bookings be made by a person over 18 who is authorised to instruct work at the property.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our business or the law changes. The current version, with its "last updated" date, always appears on this page. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
13. Contact and complaints
Questions, requests or complaints about how we handle your personal information should go to our Information Officer:
- DSTV Installations Noordhoek
- Email: info@dstvinstallationnoordhoek.co.za
- Phone / WhatsApp: 079 754 5527
- Noordhoek, Cape Town, South Peninsula, 7979
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa), whose current contact details are published on its official website. You can also read our Terms & Conditions, which govern the services themselves.
