Maybe you opened the TV guide in September and saw a new name where Compact used to be. Maybe a neighbour in Sun Valley asked if their football was gone. Here is the short version: the DStv Compact channels did not disappear. They moved, and for most Noordhoek households the change brought a bit more sport for the same money.

From 17 September 2026, DStv moved Compact customers to a new Sports package. The DStv Compact channels you watched are still there, with extra sport such as SuperSport Cricket and Currie Cup rugby added. At the time of writing, the price stayed at R479 on a decoder. You do not need a new decoder or a new dish.
Where the DStv Compact Channels Went in 2026
In September 2026, DStv rebuilt its whole package line-up. Some packages were renamed, one was replaced and one new one arrived. DStv Compact was the one that changed most.

The migration happened automatically and in phases. If you were on Compact, you did not have to phone anyone or fill in a form. Your account simply moved to the DStv Sports package. Former Family customers went to Select, which we cover in our DStv Select package guide.
Good to know
DStv says customers do not pay more after the migration. If your debit order changed, check whether an add-on, an Access Fee for an Explora or an XtraView link explains the difference before you call.
DStv Compact Channels You Keep on the Sports Package
The new name sounds like it is only for sport fans, but the entertainment side came across too. The DStv Compact channels that families watched for soapies, kids shows and documentaries are still part of the package, with more added on top.
Sport highlights at the time of writing
- Every Premier League, Champions League and PSL match.
- SuperSport Cricket, which used to be Premium only.
- Currie Cup and SA Cup rugby, plus one URC match a week.
- UFC and EFC fight nights.
- Cycling, including the Tour de France and the Cape Epic.
The Cape Epic is a nice touch for a valley full of mountain bikers. Riders who train on the trails above Noordhoek can now watch the race without upgrading, which makes the DStv Sports package a better fit than old DStv Compact for many valley homes.
Entertainment and new channels
Wethu+ is a new mega-channel available from Starter upward, and it carries two live PSL matches a week. kykNET & kie is also on all packages now. Exact line-ups shift from time to time, so check the full list on the official DStv package page.

What the DStv Compact Channels Never Had: Premium-Only Sport
Some things did not move down. If any of these matter to you, Sports will not be enough.
- Springbok rugby and other international rugby.
- Formula 1 and most motorsport.
- Golf.
- Tennis.
For a rugby household, this is the big one. Weekly URC and Currie Cup games are on Sports, but Bok test matches stay on Premium. Decide based on what you actually watch most weekends.

Most Compact Noordhoek households noticed nothing apart from the new name. A few found a channel missing or a stale TV guide. These quick checks clear up most of that without a call-out.
- Open the MyDStv app and confirm your package now reads Sports.
- Use the app or DStv WhatsApp self-service to refresh your decoder.
- Leave the decoder on, on a channel, for about 15 minutes while it updates.
- Check the TV guide again. Renamed channels may sit on new numbers.
- If a paid add-on is missing, check it is still active on your account.

Safety first
A missing channel is never a reason to climb onto the roof. If you do suspect the dish after a storm, look at it from the ground. Wet thatch, mossy tiles and ladders on soft paddock soil cause far more injuries than any TV fault is worth.
Compact Plus in Noordhoek: Keep It or Switch?
Compact Plus was not moved like Compact was. At the time of writing, existing Compact Plus subscribers keep their package, but DStv is no longer selling Compact Plus to new customers.
That makes the choice simple to frame. Compact Plus sat above the DStv Compact channels and below Premium, so it suited families who wanted extra without the top price. If you are happy on Compact Plus, staying put is the safe option. If you leave it, you will most likely not be able to come back, so compare carefully before switching to Sports, Movies & Series or Premium.

Before you change packages, write down the five channels your household watches most. Then check each one against the new line-up in the MyDStv app. It takes five minutes and stops you paying for a package that drops a favourite.
DStv Compact Channels Price in Noordhoek, Then and Now

In April 2026, DStv also froze prices instead of raising them, so the September restructure was the main change of the year.
If you run two TVs, the Access Fee applies the same way as before, and our XtraView installation team can link a second decoder. Prices can still move later, so confirm on dstv.com or in the app. Either way, the DStv Compact channels value story is about more sport, not a bigger bill.
Do You Need a New Decoder for DStv Compact Channels in Noordhoek?
No. This is the question we hear most from Compact Noordhoek customers, and it is worth repeating. The change happened on the DStv side. Your decoder, dish and smartcard all keep working.
What we have seen in the valley is that some people blame the package change for problems that are really signal issues. A wet winter front, a gum tree that has grown into the dish view, or a damp cable can all cause a broken picture.

- Mostly football, cricket and local rugby? The DStv Sports package is the natural home for former DStv Compact channels viewers.
- Mostly series, movies and local drama? Look at Movies & Series, or Select if you want to spend less.
- Springbok tests, F1 or golf? Only Premium carries those.
- A cottage or flat that just wants basic TV? Starter or EasyView may be enough.

What happened to the DStv Compact channels in 2026?
From 17 September 2026, DStv stopped selling Compact as a package. Existing Compact customers were moved automatically to the new Sports package, which keeps the entertainment Compact viewers had and adds more sport, including SuperSport Cricket, Currie Cup and SA Cup rugby. At the time of writing, the move did not raise the monthly price and needed no new decoder.
How many DStv Compact channels are there now?
Compact itself is no longer sold, so the channel count to look at is the Sports package that replaced it. At the time of writing, Sports offers 115 plus channels, a few more than Compact had. Exact line-ups change from time to time, so check the current list in the MyDStv app or on dstv.com before you decide.
Do I need a new decoder for the DStv Compact channels in Noordhoek?
No. The move from Compact to Sports happened on the DStv side, so your current decoder and dish in Noordhoek keep working. If channels went missing after the change, a refresh through the MyDStv app or DStv self-service usually sorts it. If the picture itself breaks up, that is a signal issue, not a package one.
Can I still get Compact Plus in Noordhoek?
Only if you already had it. At the time of writing, existing Compact Plus subscribers can keep the package, but DStv is not taking new Compact Plus subscriptions. If you cancel or change away from Compact Plus, you will probably not be able to return to it, so think carefully before you switch.
How much does the DStv Sports package cost?
At the time of writing, the DStv Sports package costs R479 per month on a satellite decoder and R399 per month on DStv Stream. That matches what Compact customers paid before. If you use an Explora or link decoders in XtraView, the Access Fee of R125 per month is added on top.
Does the Sports package show Springbok rugby?
No. Springbok tests and other international rugby stay on Premium, along with F1, golf and tennis. The Sports package carries every Premier League, Champions League and PSL match, SuperSport Cricket, Currie Cup and SA Cup rugby and one URC match a week. If the Boks are your main reason for DStv, Premium is the package to look at.
